Ah, great, thanks!  I shall try it out first thing tomorrow.   What I'm
really after is to have the LMS deliver alac, and have the alac decoded
by squeezelite....
have you ever tried this?   (Otherwise, I shall have to go back to where
I was about 2005 or so, and convert the ALAC over to FLAC en masse
using David Hammerton's conversion program... but I really wanted to see
if ALAC would work.) 
If you don't mind my asking, how do you set up your asound and other
configurations?  And the squeezelite parameters?  I've written a little
program that
runs through various parameter space to find the values that work best
to my ears, but it is taking a long time to find some combination that
matches what seems easy to do via windows 8 or os x.... pretty
stupefying, IMHO.
