OK, every point you make above was considered. The bottom line, this
product has to hit a price point. It depends on using an off-the-shelf
Pi board to do it. The compute module and a custom carrier board was
looked into. It would have resulted in the retail price having to be
increased by £100 to do it.

The second product, ticks every box of your requirements above, but it
is going to have to retail at 2x - 2.5x the cost of the Pi Player. 

I'm still in an awkward position, in as much as I'd like to answer in
detail everyone of your points, show you pictures of what was the
originally spec'd metal case, and explain why it was not possible to
produce this "product" to a "fit and finish" standard that I thought was
acceptable using the metal case, whilst meeting cost restraints, I've
agreed to be quiet until the this product is launched. ;)
