My preferences are similar.

picoreplayer (without Jivelite active) running on an RPi (using HDMI or
a DAC+, depending on location) provides all that I consider must-have.
Usually, there's a tablet or smartphone floating around for now-playing
display and control.

However, I'd consider a small now-playing display a nice-to-have. A few
physical buttons for control would be a nice-to-have, too. But that's
*very* far down my list. I'd probably use those buttons as rarely as the
the ones on my AVR (like, 0.01% of the time).
