So I got a Pi2 board and substituted it for the older one.
I got the appropriate software for the Pi2 and put it on the microSD
card.
I began the network/wi-fi setup and alas, the touchscreen Pi2 would not
connect to my LAN by ethernet.
I tried reloading the software several times onto the microSD card.
I began to notice that there were some problems with the router's DHCP
table so I decided that the time was right to make a router switch (I
always have one in reserve)
The new router would not connect to the touchscreen player either.
I then put the older B+ board back in place and loaded its software: it
connected to the LAN by ethernet without a problem.
My conclusion is that the Pi2 board is defective.
So I still have the touchless touchscreen :(

Thanks.
