Mike, try this, it might not work as piCore is a bit different.

This is for windows

Take your sd card and put it into a card reader.

Open the card and look for the boot.config file.
Open the file and add 

max_usb_current=1 

to the end of the file.

Save and close, remove the usb reader in the proper manner and you
should be good to go.

I don't have a player in front of me at the moment to check, but this is
the simple way way I do it when I burn a new image for raspbian etc, as
the card is already in the computer.
