Just reporting back about my Clock Screensaver issue. The Pi is a Pi3. There is a bug in the onboard wifi driver that does not allow the Pi to connect to an NTP server and get the time. Guys at piCorePlayer are now aware and monitoring.
Everything works as intended if you connect over LAN or a Wi-Fi dongle. It was only the fact that the Clock Screensaver wouldn't work that alerted me to the issue.
