Wasn't the MDAC USB1 interface a PITA going all the way back to the WB days? I have vague recollections about having to kludge, both in code and making sure the thing was plugged via a hub rather than directly into WB..... Not that you'd appreciate this answer.... but have you considered one of the various SPDIF/TOSLINK output Digi boards to drive the MDAC?
