Thanks bpa but my other RPi, without PCP, works fine and this has in general been working well until this upgrade. I used to have Windows-related issues with HLS that went away when you upgraded to DASH.
Squeezelite is supposed to play AAC natively so I don't think it is transcoding. It's really the RPi hanging here.
