I got the app to launch via the command:

Then went into the app settings and enabled all the Debug categories.
There is a ton of diagnostic data now coming out on the terminal... no
obvious errors so far, but lots of information on the real-time display
process eg:

Will go through this output in more detail... there may be a clue there.
Another idea is to install an older version of the JJVM and force the
app to use that.
