I've repeated the test with the unmodified container, as requested:
Code:

Controlled By: ReplicaSet/lms-6b48cb596

lms:
Container ID:

I tested the "add remote library" method as you suggested. I reset the
player to mysb, went to Settings -> Advanced -> Networking -> Remote
Libraries. I deleted the server there and re-entered the server's IP
address (= the virtual IP I assigned the kubernetes cluster). I got an
error message twice on the device about being unable to connect on my
initial try. During the displaying the second error message (after
hitting retry), it showed up in LMS' web interface and the device
switched then to the "Now playing" screen. I repeated this 2 more times,
but couldn't get the error screen anymore and the device connected
without incident.
I tried connecting with squeezelite from another box in the local
network, worked fine on the first try.

I agree. As it's impossible for the server to know (in let's say
advanced scenarios) which address it should report to mysb or the
players, having some option to override the otherwise valid guessing
attempts would be good.
It also reports the hostname assigned to the container when connecting.
In my case that's lms-6b48cb596-wl2rt and changes if for whatever reason
the deployment is changed or the pod is dropped.
