I tested it and it works with the patched container and it doesn't work with the lmscommunity/logitechmediaserver:8.1.1-stable container.
Would it still not work if you reverted your change? The reason why I have my doubts about your change is that it has nothing to do with "communicating an IP address to the player", but it only changes the IP address sent to mysb in case you want to tell mysb to send a player from there to your LMS. But unless your player was connected to mysb, and you tried to use LMS' web UI to pull the player over from mysb to LMS, that code change would not be used at all. It's not being used when you select "my music" on the player.
But as you didn't provide the simple information I was asking for, I'll be happy to explain my "attitude":
It's hard staying on topic here with that attitude you keep displaying,
Ok, I might have been a bit blunt. With you having less than a handful of postings I should have understood that you don't know me and my usually quite helpful, but sometims a big ironic nature. So, sorry about that.
You came here describing an IT department's datacenter. I asked a few simple questions, because while you posted a lot of information, most of it was little helpful to even understand what the problem was. "Does Kubernetes NAT the traffic?" - No response. "LMS would be exposed on which IP? What IP does the player have?" - No response. "Can you access the web UI?" - No response.
So... I tried to help you out. Asked questions to narrow down the problem. But you didn't provide a single answer to my question. And then you wonder about my attitude?...
I've been helping out this community for almost two decades. And my experience has shown over and over again, that users of your calibre usually have a problem in their overly complex setup. Users who configure iptables, throw in tcpdump data but don't respond to the simplest questions are very likely to break things themselves. Sometimes you must let go of your ideas of a solution to take a different approach. I wanted to provide you this different approach, but you showed no sign of interest. I should have spent that time with my family instead.
