When you "down" a connection, we don't have a network daemon running to
handle changing the default route to the other connection so that is why
you loose connectivity.  

The interesting thing here is why when you only have the USB ethernet
plugged in, why doesn't it work, when you are getting an address.

I see this error in both pCP and Buster.  We have not packaged any
firmwares for this chipset, but if it works under buster with the same
error, then the firmware may not be 100% needed for function.   But we
might want to rectify that.
