Its clearly something with that device.  I have 2 different usb network
devices working fine.  What other capabilities are in the device?

The easiest way to figure this out would be to
1) Boot without the device plugged in.   Use keyboard and monitor, or
use wifi
2) load the netusb-KERNEL extension
3) Plug in the device
4) Capture what is put in dmesg

lsusb and lsmod output would be helpful too.
