Did the device work at this point, or not?   It looks like the device
wants firmware.  It this case it appears to have decided to skip the
firmware load, and used some default mode.  But I suspect in other
cases, it does not skip the firmware load, and fails.

We currently do not include any usb/ethernet firmware....   but I
suppose we can create an extension.
