Thanks for all this information. My setup is that my music is stored on an external NAS, so that's not an issue. I believe I have the cache and settings on the SD card. When I've had the blackouts, it seems as it is the cache that gets corrupted.
I'm curious about the process of using the built-in SD card backup. Can someone give me a step by step? I assume one first has to turn off LMS. Then can I just pop out the internal card and out in a fresh one to do the backup? Does it backup all the settings, plugins, etc?
