Pre-G3 is a good way of differentiating. There is little difference, though,
in the OF between for example a 7600 and a Beige G3.

Also, a Pre-G3 machine can display the OF on the screen. The 7x00/8x00
machines had a bug where data would be written to the screen chip
(/chaos/control) too quickly and corrupt the framebuffer. There was an OF
patch developed by a LinuxPPC? developer to correct that. Supposedly, Ryan
Rempel integrated it at some point into UUX. Also note that the bug does not
affect PCI video cards, no matter what machine they are installed in.
