Kris,
I'd like to include your original message with my
reply to better help in answering the question
directly, but don't want to get a "no-no" email from
Listmom. Anyway, what upgrade card are you using?
Newer Tech has pretty stringent memory requirements. I
also have ran into this problem with Powerlogix cards
too, though. I have a brand new (well earlier this
year) 128MB stick that would give me random kernel
panics in X. Are you running X? In OS 9 it worked
fine. I tried the routine that Powerlogix suggests (go
to www.powerlogix.com FAQ's for more info) of
switching DIMM locations to no avail. I also tried
tweeking the backside cache speed, in case there was a
conflict, and it helped but did not entirely solve the
problem. I finally adjusted the bus speed down from 50
to 46.7 all the way to 40MHZ and it is about 98-99%
stable with "Memory access" kernel panics once a week
or so. So to get back to your original question, yes
apparently G3/G4 upgrade cards require memory as fast
as you can get. I bought mine @ 18004memory.com
(before they had the disclaimer) so I wouldn't suggest
buying from them. I would try
http://www.store.yahoo.com/memx/powermac7500.html and
purchase the 128MB "upgrade card" DIMM. It looks like
it went down in price as it used to be $79.99!!! Also,
X seems to be a lot more picky about RAM than 9 as I
stated earlier. Hope this helps!!
Mike
