I tried an X.1 installation with an ixMicro card in my stock 7600 and It would not do video on the PCI card. I do not think that the PCI video card is supported under X. There may be drivers on sourceforge, but I doubt it as the ixMicro is an older card. You might be better served by beefing up the VRAM in your 9600 or getting a more Unix friendly card like a 3dfx or something.
The only way that I got XPF to do the X install was to pull all of the PCI cards out of the Mac and then the installation went off without a hitch. The only hard disk drivers that work with X are Apple's one other--I forget...But I know that FWB and CharisMac will NOT work. You might try heading over to Gamba's and looking for a patched drive setup that will re-driver any HD that spins with an Apple driver. X might install on a disk with another driver, but it will not boot after the fact.
