Eric, Yes, I did run Disk Repair and Verify before doing this, partly as part of the steps in my earlier attempts (that started this subject line about a week and half ago!). The disks checked out fine. Also, for this trial, couldn't do the zero format on that drive, as it had not yet been backed up.
I think that since I have a _RELATIVELY_ stable install of 9.2 on this 8500, I'll keep it there until I can get an ATA controller and drives, then I'll see about moving it over to OS X. In the meantime, 10.1.5 is just rocking along on the 7600. I'm going to start a new thread with some questions about using Gallery. Actually, I've found XPF to work fine. The only exception was that I had to go back to an earlier version to get X loaded and running in the 7600. Version 2.0b1 actually worked better than the Version 2.2xxx ones!
