Does anyone have any info on the ATi Radeon 9200 128 MB PCI Mac version video card that was quietly announced at MWSF? Will it be or is the PC version compatible with our "unsupported" systems and if so do any of you folks have speculation on possible video performance improvements or pitfalls over say the 7000 series?

Steve,
Firstly this is a little off topic but would welcome others observations - direct message if necessary - list is quiet so hope you all don't mind.......
I know nothing of the 9200 but have an interesting observation regarding the 7000 (Mac edition) in 9600. I recently upgraded to a G5 and have been canablising parts from 9600 to put into Dads G3 B&W 450. I swapped his ATI Rage 128 for my Radeon 7000 and believe it or not the Rage card seems faster in 9600 (under OS 9.1 at least - haven't tried X). The basis for this is using an analogue TV tuner card to display TV image to screen - I can run a larger screen size smoother than I could on 7000??! However 7000 upgrade over Twin Turbo was massive particularly in X
Again just a simple test under OS 9, I couldn't run Marine Aquarium without stutters (with either Twin or 7000) but under X.2 I could run it with all 8 fish swimming, Lighting, Bubbles etc and it was smooth as silk using 7000 (without PCI Extreme hack either)
It seems that Radeon is beneficial if most time is being spent in X BUT Rage seems better if more time spent in OS 9
What are other people seeing?
This is by no means exhaustive testing but a casual observation. Similar things seem to happen even on B&W with card in 66mhz Slot - ie little slower under 9 but much better under X. Yes I believve I have the latest update from ATI website and have followed tips from xlr8 website
Hope above all makes sense
Cheers
Simon
