There must be something wrong with me. I'm curiously unexcited.
I was excited about 7.5, and 7.5.3, and 7.5.5, and 7.6, and 7.6.1. Each promised important improvements. Each brought significant disappointments.
I was excited about 8.0, and 8.1. That was pretty good. Considering it would run on a Quadra. Or even a IIci with enough RAM and a software hack. (Unsupported, of course.)
I was excited about 8.5, and 8.5.1, and 8.6. I can still take a Carbon app which runs on OS X, and run it also on an old Quadra, with a PPC upgrade card, hacked to run 8.6. That's pretty neat, I think. Not useful, but neat. And unsupported.
I was quite excited by 9.0 and its progeny, though I've always found it temperamental.
I was very excited by OS X, to the point of trying out the Public Beta, then Cheetah, then Puma, then Jag, in fairly rapid succession. All on unsupported desktop machines.
But so far, I haven't found anything in Panther which is enough to make me shell out for multiple licences for the whole household. So most of my machines are still on Jag, and happy with it.
Of course, if Apple also chose to release Tiger for x86 as well, that would be ... interesting ...

I was just repeating what I read on the various Mac sites. Something about a flurry of new builds that would possibly indicate the imminent release. Besides Apple would never fib or procrastinate on a major release ;-} as opposed to Mickeysoft.
And they're not fibbing or procrastinating. They said "Sometime in the first half of 2005", and by gum they meant it. ;-) Me I'm being pessimistic, and guessing they'll release it to coincide with WWDC.
