Here's an idea for you: The only thing that keeps me using Windows personally is the IBM Thinkpad. It's physically the best laptop made. The keyboard is solid, responsive, with decent travel (by comparison typing on an iBook or even a Powerbook feels like I'm tapping on the scales of a dead alligator). You get a touchpad *and* a trackpoint mouse, the case is solid and robust, the 14" T23 I use has higher resolution than the 17" powerbook and cost like an iBook, there's a zillion devices available for the Ultrabay. If it ran Mac OS X it would be perfect... unfortunately even Ryan Rempel wouldn't be able to run OS X on *this* unsupported computer. Your wife may be better off with a Thinkpad, maybe?
