Same here. Once I got up to 10.2.8, everything was finally reasonably stable and quick. Aqua has never been a real problem since I dump it anyway and install a Classic Platinum theme(I'm more for functionality than looks as the UI goes, and Platinum appeals to me anyway). Once I could get Panther for <$100.00 I eventually upgraded. The main things I liked were Expose and improved graphics performance. Upgrading to 10.3.6 has provided considerable performance increase, especially with things like EverQuest, that really tax a system. Probably download 10.3.8 in the next couple weeks since any bugs should be worked out by now.

That is something which has been lacking for a very long time, in Windows and Mac OS: having the OS add more features, yet still run as fast or faster than the last version, instead of being dragged down by feature bloat.

I was very excited by OS X, to the point of trying out the Public Beta, then Cheetah, then Puma, then Jag, in fairly rapid succession. All on unsupported desktop machines.

But so far, I haven't found anything in Panther which is enough to make me shell out for multiple licences for the whole household. So most of my machines are still on Jag, and happy with it.

I agree, but if it offers UI speed improvements, which each successive version of X has done so far, then I'm interested as I run older, slower unsupported systems. Each extra UI boost makes a noticeable difference- 10.1 thru 10.2 to 10.3 on a 7600 G3/400 PCI Rage128 or Beige G3/400 Rev B went from annoyingly slow to enjoyable to use.
