Sorry, got to echo Peter's view. Operating Systems (like small children) should be seen and not heard. Logically, there is no a priori reason to believe that newer is better. Experientially, there is ample evidence that newer, being more complicated, is often worse. The makers of OSs (like Apple) have taken on the job of flogging us new versions - which we don't really need - at regular intervals, in order to generate business revenue. What we might need - and probably would pay happily for - is new or improved applications which are compatible with our existing operating systems and equipment. But that's not the commercial game at the moment.

Long-term, the present cycle of upgrade software, upgrade hardware is not sustainable. I mean literally not sustainable, in the environmental sense. On a finite planet, you can't keep on for ever trashing stuff which works. But it will be a while before this harsh environmental reality overcomes the present and unsustainable global economic model. Personally I think we'll have killed ourselves by killing our environment before that happens, which will mean another species gets its turn. Nanobots, maybe.

I was just repeating what I read on the various Mac sites. Something about a flurry of new builds that would possibly indicate the imminent release. Besides Apple would never fib or procrastinate on a major release ;-} as opposed to Mickeysoft.

And they're not fibbing or procrastinating. They said "Sometime in the first half of 2005", and by gum they meant it. ;-) Me I'm being pessimistic, and guessing they'll release it to coincide with WWDC.

Hi Bruce. We all really appreciate your input to this group. I'm an optimist on the other hand. 21 days and counting. The reason I asked about Tiger is that I like new. OS's anyway. I assume they are better than the previous one. I do the updates as soon as I am notified as opposed to waiting to see if someone reports bombs.
And I probably will do Tiger when Ryan does his magic.
