Ya, I was trying out PhpED today for the first time, I was able to hook up a remote connection using ssh+ftp and then create a project that used these files, but the problem I had was that it then downloaded the entire source from the server, then when I made changes it saved them locally, and I had to then use the smart sync feature or the upload feature to update the remote files, with ZDE all I have to do is hit CTRL-S just like you would a local file and it will ftp the new file up to the server. I might have just missed how you can do this with PhpED, but I wasn't able to find this...
Ctrl+Shift+S = save to remote server. Then all you have to do is hit F5 on you browser window to see the changes.

It does like to save local copies, but [I think] that is primarily for debugging purposes [and for speed.]
