Ok, I will. Bow to the Photoshop god you dogs! Nothing else is
acceptable! (just kidding)
Photoshop has the reputation for a steep learning curve. However, the
ability to do some amazing things quickly is undeniable. I have tried
to use other tools since then, and have been frustrated that in no
time I find there's something I can't do, or do easily. Just my
personal experience. The amount of third party freebies and tutorials
is vast and unmatched. Overkill? Perhaps. Swift and effective?
Definitely.
Think of it this way. You don't need a Ferrari to go to the corner
store for milk. You can take the extremely capable Buick! Or a BMW!
There are lots of good tools out there. And I'd even throw Illustrator
into the mix. Check your budget, and decide from there. But for me
personally, the Ferrari is in the garage....
Whoa. You guys are killing me with the Ferrari... stuff. I guess I'm just
not even in the same league as all of the Ferrari and Beamer drivers. After
seeing the price I have to pay for Photoshop (I'm still suffering definite
sticker shock symptoms) I decided I just want to be a humble C++ programmer
when I grow up and not a graphic designer.
Seriously, are there any suggestions for those of us who drive rattling,
clanking lumps of metal (that we even maybe might live out of)?
I'm not sure what you want? I gave you an option that's very easy to
use, very professional, very free, very W3C standard, very
cross-platform. Or could even use Richard's suggestion of Powerpoint.
Whatever is most agile. But no one on this list seems to want to move
to something that's not even very new.
Forget the Ferrari, this PHP arena reminds me more of "Your Father's
Oldsmobile".
