iirc Microsoft stated that their licensing was treating multi-core
CPUs as a single CPU, so it would only cost per CPU die, not per
computing core. So the 2-CPU "home" license with two Octacore CPUs
would give you 16 cores. :)

Not that Linux or IRIX would have that problem. (IRIX has the
problem that CPU cores cost a helluva lot of money for poor
performance these days. Well, they always cost big bucks, but at
least 15 years ago you also got big bang for the money.)
