Yeah, there are some really funny points in this one! Let's have a look a
few:
What killed them was exacly what killed AtariST and hurt MAC : No
standard, No upgrade possible (almost not possible).
Although it can be argued that "lack" of a standard is part of the reason
for the demise/hurting of these other systems, there are many more factors
at work here: For Atari, they didn't improve their hardware capability very
much until the very end (other than increasing processor speed and memory)
and for Mac, it's true that their system was even more closed than Atari's,
so I'll give you that one...
Have you tried the amiga emulator? I do and trust me Amiga was really a
complicated computer (full of mode and incompatibility).
There was little or no compatibility between different Amiga model.
I use UAE all the time! And on a real Amiga 1200 I could use 99% of the
software written by changing a few simple settings on boot-up (hold both
mouse buttons). And with my accel card I could even revert back to default
speed if necessary. But yes, Amiga basically divided itself between the 'low
end' Amigas and the 3000/4000, which was probably their attempt to be
accepted as something more than just a game machine.
Microsoft saved the computer world by imposing a much needed standard and
by helping and welcoming developers.
Look at the total failure of linux : no standard -> no serious people are
using it.
Vista Home Premius OEM is 120$ us, this is cheaper than most released of
Linux.
I can download Linux for FREE or get it included with a Linux book for about
$60US, so I don't know what you're talking about here... I will grant you
that there are too many versions of Linux out there and that they should
come together and set a base standard, but even so, this is usually not a
problem with Linux software that I've used.
Vista is available in something like 12 versions, and not all features are
available in all versions, so some incompatibility could arise. It is also a
sloth-like bloated behemoth that crawls along on systems that would seem
bullet-speed just a few years ago. It's a good thing Intel/AMD have
increased processor speeds as much as they have, because otherwise MS's OSes
would be mind-bendingly slow to use otherwise...
Micro$soft solved 95% of the problem of computer by imposing THE ONLY WAY.
And microsoft is still the only company in the world supporting developers
: cheap and free SDK, well documentation with tutorials, free libraries,
DirectX etc.
Try to understand something about coding for Linux, Qnx or Mac.
I will give you the fact that MS has a tremendous amount of free support for
it's products, but info on the other OSes is also free if you know ehere to
look (Apple's website is chock full of programmer/developer info) and Linux
info is all over the place for free!
Oh well...
