The solution for the issue which we choose in the end still puts the site name in the link on the author when you are accessing from different domain then for which one the site is configured, however the links are now translated recognized properly and do not lead to 404. This is necessary in order to be able always recognize the site and apply i18n and other settings as appropriate. Philipp could probably better explain all the things that are going on there.
