why 2.1.2 when we already have a later release, ie 2.2
In any case how do i get an earlier release, is there a seperate revision
no. I looked up svn.magnolia.info but couldnt find a way of getting a
certain release.
There is no 2.2. The 2.2 will be the next release, meaning that the sourcecode
there is under work.
For previous releases you should checkout svn branches. If working on a Win machine try using
TortoiseSVN, it will ease your life with SVN.
also which directory do you run maven from. is it the trunk directory or
somewhere else.
For both series (meaning 2.1.x and 2.2) maven is run in the main directory. However the arguments
are different.

has somebody done this already. as I mentioned earlier I followed the
instructions on http://www.magnolia.info/en/magnolia/developer.html but
looks like they are now outdated, in which case can somebody please point to
a one page instruction on this.

eclipse
and got revision 1688. is this the same as release 2.2?
The trunk is for 2.2 release. It contains the restructed project. You
should check out the branch corresponding to 2.1.2.

Magnolia 2.1.2 is already out for a couple of days. However this is
not directly related - I guess - to your question. If I got it
correctly you are asking if in case you check out source code of
Magnolia 2.1.2 you will be able to build it on your machine: I think
you may give it a try and report here any problems you might have. The
2.x branches are not Maven multiprojects so you should be able to
easily create an Eclipse project for it and build it.
