Would it be fair to say that the documentation/wiki on the magnolia site
is in a state of flux due to the current versioning mix, between 2.1 and
3.0?. I've noticed some broken links and out of date information in
various places, especially wrt modules. Would it help for me to email
them to someone as I find them?

the core magnolia team is currently very busy preparing the release 3.0.
If you feel like correcting the imprecisions and lags you find in the
wiki, this will be very appreciated.
The instruction on how to login into the wiki do appear in the first
paragraph of that page :
