The DMS browser browses the content of the current instance. So if it's
the public instance, it browses the public, and if it's the author, the
author.
So all the documents uploaded in the author instance must be activated
to find them in the public instance.
Secondly, you can access the DMS browser of the adminInterface on the
public instance with that URL :
http://public_server/public_instance/.magnolia/adminCentral.html .

To use the DMS browser must the documents reside on the Author instance server
or can the DMS browser read directory contents on the public instance? Also,
did you investigate whether it would be possible to deploy the DMS browser on
the public instance?

Subject: Re: [magnolia-user] Sharing documents: Show directory contents
Hi James,
We had nearly the same goal to do. In Magnolia, there is the DMS browser
which already exists, but is accessible only from the Author part.
What we done, is writing a "paragraph" which renders an IFrame in which
we call the external DMS browser renderer. Then you can, from a public
place, browse the content of the DMS as if you were in the Author instance.

Is there any facility in magnolia for directory browsing? What I have is
a directory on our web server that contains hundreds of documents. Most
of the documents are in sub-directories that go about 3 levels deep. I
need a web page that shows all documents (with hyperlinks for
downloading) within the main document directory as well as hyperlinks
that allow the user to drill down into the sub directories to look at
and download other documents within these subdirectories. I plan on
writing a template that allows you to enter a physical directory and it
will build the necessary page that will automatically show all documents
within the directory. However, before I embark on this I wanted to make
sure something like this is not already built into magnolia and/or
someone else has already posted something like this on the Wiki. Is
there a way to display the contents of a directory using a pre-built
template or an example on the wiki, or would I be better off creating my
own template? Is my template idea overkill? Could I simply add a context
that allows directory browsing to the magnoliaPublic web.xml file?
