I have been putting off upgrading from Magnolia 2 to 3 because I've
heard the default database 3 ships isn't as good as Magnolia 2. So I
wanted to change the default database. I'm not a database guru (and
completely ignorant of Java database technology), so I'm not anxious
to embark on paths that are not well documented with step by step
instructions.
I've looked at this for version 3:
http://www.magnolia.info/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=SettingUpMySQLRepository
And indeed it looks badly documented with things such as corrections
at the bottom. Why not just correct the incorrect instructions? I'm
timid to try to try it. And then there is the comment at the bottom
about using the DataSourcePersistenceManager because following the
instructions on that page could cause some:
"Broken Pipe" error and could possibly loose some data.
Awk!!!!!!!!
Then there is DataSourcePersistenceManager:
http://www.magnolia.info/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=DataSourcePersistenceManager
It doesn't give the version number it is valid for! Is this for
Magnolia 2 or 3.0? It is obvious that version 3.1 (not available as
a download package, so I'm not going to use it!) uses this:
http://www.magnolia.info/wiki/Wiki.jsp?
page=SettingUpMySQLRepositoryWithMagnolia3.1
So my question is, what do people recommend for the most stable
database solution? And are there easy to follow step by step
instructions on setting up alternate databases? Or should I just
stick with the default?
