Hi Neil again
I once used this approach.. dont know if its useable for you.. (if you
dont think its even more clumpsy..=)
1. Animate the Root Levels 'Fade' Attribute, then set its curve to
Boolean in the Chor Editor.
2. Create a 'Float' Channel called OnOff (Or whatever)
3. Create a Material Called OnOff (Or whatever) with a 'Copy' object in
it, Fade*=Copy(OnOff) (in the Surface properties Shader)
4. Apply the OnOff Material to the whole scene, in the Root Level
5. Set which objects/Levels and so on which shall be On/Off controlled
by the Choreography made in step 1.
Now you have both overall control on any object (On/Off) using the Chor
anim, and you can also additionally to that animate a specific object..
by animate its OnOff channel value.. (even have it doing a transition
from non faded to complete faded..
While testing this old way.. I found a bug.. =).. lol the old betatester
in me came to life a bit.
a cube sitting exact on the ground plane, left a shadow on it, even when
fully faded..=), move it up a tiny bit and shadow or artifact was gone..=)
It was so long since I actively did any 3D at all, hehe I hardly
remember anything...
btw.. I really liked your sample anim of that tv-series thing..(would
have been nice to see it in all its glory in HD !)
It reminded me of the feeling in those "Beyond the mind's eye" lovely
anim collections way back in the days !
Good luck with that work !, seems like a lot of fun !

Yes, that's what I'm doing now. Easy enough since the animation
choreograph is a Boolean graph and the on/off can be drawn directly
there for blink objects for example.
In order to place an object at a specific point or with specific
attributes I will sometimes shift to a duplicate - on for one and off
for the prior state - all in the same frame.
A VSL material seemed a useful tool since it is a lot easier to apply
the same boolean time line to a lot of different objects in a lot of
different levels, very easily. This is rare but the clip based
material I came up with seemed clumsy.
It is of no great matter at all but thanks for looking at it!!

Hi Neil
Maybe I dont know what you want exactly..
But why dont you just animate the 'Ray Tracing Invisible' on/off
for the object(s)/level(s) ?

Hi List ...
There must be an easier way to clip whole objects from an animation.
At the moment I load a black jpg into the Clip Map material and
then in the choreography window I change the line type to boolean
and then shift the "clip from" value between white and black ...
I can do this on the graph (attributes) ... as needed by the
animation story line.
But that seems to me to be a very long way round,
Any shortcuts?
Thanks
