Martin,

don't give up that easily. Read on why ....

Browse to http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/CASTOR, sign up and you'll
find a link saying 'Create new issue' right at the top. You will have to
sign up, as otherwise all Jira instances maintained at the Codehaus
(~100) will be flooded with spam by robots. Sorry, but this is simply
policy. And guess what: Sun, Spring, et alias require sign-up. In other
words, we are not trying to make your life hard.

That is a strong statement, indeed. And it depends on where you look at
for comparison. E.g. Spring has been 'injected' some multi-million
dollars. And it's probably a bit more sexy as a tool, etc. But no, I
don't want to change your opinion.

Do you recognize that you are looking at release 1.3 RC1. And if you'd
be looking at the majority of the remaining open issues for 1.3 GA,
you'd come to see that there's a few tasks related to cleaning up and
improving documentation.

Please try not to generalize. As simple as that. And remember: this is
open source. I am more than happy to accept a monthly check of e.g. US$
4.000,- and you'll get me spending 20 hours a week on documentation only
(where required). But with the 10 to 15 hours I contribute to the
project per week UNPAID, this is not an option to me, as I'd rather add
functionality, improve build, fix bugs, etc.

If you (or anybody else) is not willing to pay cash for being serviced
commercially-grade, how about .. contributing some of your time and
submit some patches. This is - sorry to repeat myself here - OPEN
source. Feel like making a difference ? Why not do it ?

Let me tell you one more thing. Google has been paying about 1.000
students as part of the recent Google summer of code. They asked us
(mentors) to join them last week, coming up for accommodation and
travel. Why ? Because they want us to give feedback, improve the program
again, like they did for three years now. That's what I call dedication.
And we as a project has students now for three years, helping us
(existing committers) to make the product better, etc. And it does take
a lot of our time to mentor these students, bring them up to speed. But
in the end, they contribute, sometimes even stay put and join us as new
committers. Guess what ? I love that (Thanks, Leslie).

Let me tell you something. In the last 30 days or so before the RC1
release, I have personally spent about 5 to 7 days on converting all
HTML documentation for XML and the XML code generator to DocBook. And
guess what: I am not being paid for this. And I really don't want to be
reconsidering my personal drive for this.

> Everything seems unorganized. It doesn't build out of the box,
It does for me, and our build servers show that it has been doing so for
weeks. In other words, if you want us to help with your persona problem,
we are more than willing. But I'd rather not take a beating in the
public first.

Not really. Simply start re-reading from the top, and I am sure we'll
get you there.

ENOUGH said .....
