Eugene... I appreciate the speedy response. Your answer contradicts a few things.
1. it all worked in previous versions 2. env vars are supported by maven 3. this is a regression 4. it would not be nice to mute maven features (env vars) The value inside all text boxes are equal to this precisely char for char User Settings File: C:\Documents and Settings\owner\.m2\settings.xml Global Settings File: C:\Documents and Settings\owner\.m2\settings.xml I will try the workaround (try it without env var) and let you know how I make out. Why did the mirrors (the ones I removed) hang the plugin?
