Barry,

You can try to open <update site>/content.xml and <update site>/artifacts.xml in a web browser to force your proxy to do the right thing.

Also note that there is a p2 bug in Eclipse 3.4 [1]
So, when having problems with installation the following manupulations to clear Eclipse cache some times help to get around that:

1. Uninstall/move the plugin files/directories and delete the .link files.
2. Restart Eclipse with the -clean option to clear the cache.
3. Open the bundles.info file in your Eclipse configuration\org.eclipse.equinox.simpleconfigurator directory to verify that references to the old installations are gone.
4. Install plugin as usual and start Eclipse.

 regards,
 Eugene

Thanks Mark

Eugene, at home I am not seeing any of the problems I was seeing at work. In
fact the download and install was just a few seconds -- as expected.

So I'm guessing its the corporate http proxy that is causing the trouble.
All of my installs at work are very slow, but only m2e fails outright (so
far at least).

thanks!
