I just installed midgard on a potato machine. I used the packaged php
(4.0.3pl1); having 4.0.6 will only make your life easier. Here's what
I installed:

apt-get install apache-dev apache autoconf automake libtool libglib1.2 libglib1.2-dev 
zlib1g zlib1g-dev libxmltok1 libxmltok1-dev file php4 php4-dev flex bison patch
