The parameter is ignored in current versions of midgard-php4. If you
installed midgard-lib in /home/midgard, make sure that
/home/midgard/bin is in your path while building midgard-php4.
Specifically, 
  $ midgard-config --report
should output some text.

> make[1]: *** [article.slo] Error 1
> make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/include/php/ext'
> make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1

If you don't still have an older midgard-lib installed somewhere,
adding midgard-config to your path will probably remedy this.
