That sounds like an very interesting project, but I will not be able to
help you, I do not know PHP or Midgard well enough for this. I think
you'll have to wait for Emiliano to come back for this.

To the question why Midgard reinvents the wheel, I think this is one of
the legacies we inherited from 1.0 or 1.2 Midgard, where PHP was only
partly able to do what we wanted. Current projects are trying to clean
up this code, for example things like new parser in midgard-lib or
similar things.

We are working on it, but give us some time ;-)
