Greetings, I've decided to get into the hosting business so I can consolidate my clients onto a single server that I have control over instead of relying on shared hosting. There are no US-based hosting companies (that I know) of who provide Midgard/Aegir, so I thought I would like to offer Midgard and have it available for my own use as well. I am looking for advice on installing and configuring Midgard for use in a shared hosting environment.
The server I am planning on getting will have Redhat 7.3, although version 9 is an option. The recent announcement by Redhat that they are dropping support for both versions soon has me wondering what to do. Is Midgard more stable on version 9? I notice the only binary offered is built on version 9, and wonder if there's a significant reason for that. A big question involves the choice of server hosting management packages. The Midgard website has a note about the use of Plesk with Midgard, which is an option available to me but my preference is to use CPanel. Does anyone have experience with Midgard with CPanel? Midgard requires a custom PHP module that runs as an Apache module. CPanel and Plesk both install PHP as CGI, I'm hoping someone may have experience with recompiling php under either of these packages and would be willing to provide some guidance. Any advice on configuring Midgard for a shared hosting environment would be appreciated.
