Greetings, I thought it might be fun to upgrade my phone from an /old/ Android 2 phone to something more modern. I got a great deal on a Samsung S4 and after my first hour, I want to smash this damn phone against the wall...
While I seem to have issue after issue with this device, the one that is relevant to this list is trying to get all of my contacts (stored in my owncloud instance) to sync to the phone. I installed f-droid and from f-droid I installed owncloud and davdroid. Owncloud connected to my server right away, davdroid gives this silly error "Cannot verify hostname". Well, I know it is lying because the owncloud client just connected to my server! After checking everything else I went to google. I found this: http://davdroid.bitfire.at/faq/entry/cannot-verify-hostname What the hell? How does a problem with a CA translate into the error "Cannot verify hostname"? Whatever... I run my own server with my own SSL running from my own CA. A configuration I know I have seen others on the list talk about so I don't think that configuration is out of the ordinary. Apparently they have to make this process a pain in the @$$... I did their checks and my ca is just fine. So I went to the next link: http://davdroid.bitfire.at/faq/entry/importing-a-certificate I already had my crt file, so I tossed it into owncloud and from the owncloud client I imported it. Android tells me "successful", but when I go to Settings->Security->Credential storage->Trusted credentials->User nothing is listed! More importantly I still get that error in davdroid. I figured maybe it didn't like however I generated my crt file. So I generated a new crt file similar to their example (which doesn't work for me btw; openssl throws a configuration error if you cut and paste that command). $ openssl x509 -req -days 365 -in ca.csr -signkey ca.key -outform DER -out new_ca.crt Same thing. Android tells me "successful" but nothing is shown in the User field and davdroid still gives me an error. I'm stuck. Does anyone know how to get contacts to sync to a 4.4 android phone? Is there anything better then davdroid? Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks. ~Stack~
