As the owner of the project if that is me then what is
the technical procedure? Even I don't know who is responsible to create a new CVS account or give CVS
update permission.
Sounds like you have a problem. The Incubator PMC is discussing aspects concerning process that would have helped you - but this is of little or no benefit to you now. What you need is some immediate assistance. The question worth addressing here is what that asistance should be and who should be providing it.
I see positive interest in the FTP project here in Avalon and I think the Avalon PMC carries a moral responsibility to ensure you get the support you need. I think (hope) Berin agrees with me here that we can provide you the support for sorting this stuff out either directly or via the Incubator.
I agree. There are certain technical aspects of making a release that really isn't so hard. Not being an Incubator guru, they may have some procedure type requirements. Do talk with the Incubator PMC about that. We will be more than happy to help with the technical aspects.
Technically you are a project under the Incubator (ie.. the Incubator PMC is the PMC responsible for the project and facilitating delivery of the things you need). However, I would like to make a proposal to the the Avalon PMC to bring you back into Avalon if you agree (at least temprorarily). My thoughts are that within this environment, and in the context of Avalon Components, you existing work and the community of interests already present here presents a more constructive environment.
We would be able to work together on getting a quality release in place along side other Avalon Component components, introducing the patches already discussed and posted on this list, and incorporating migration of the project to the released suite of cornerstone components. From that basis we could perhaps prepare a roadmap for the product - and through that process - establish the an appropriate and viable path forward.
Hmm. I have somewhat mixed feelings about this for only one reason: The Avalon project *should* focus on container/component issues more than anything else. Nevertheless, I recognize we have a real problem with support for the FTP project. There is no question that we would like to see it succeed. We keep in mind that containers and components are useless if they are not used in an application. :/ It is a conundrum.
I am in favor of doing what it takes to help you succeed. So help us help you. What is it that you need to make things happen?
p.s. I'm cc'ing the Avalon PMC because I think we (the PMC) can help you.
I think that was a wise move.
