Hi Frank, So much for the announcement, now for the journalistic flak ;-) What will be the consequences of a lack of sufficient funding for the OOo 2.0 release ? While I appreciate that the OOo integration team has probably been working its gut out to get things sorted, what are the concrete implications for this module, considering that we are still a distance away from a satisfactory solution, I mean in the sense of one that works without crashing every 30 seconds ;-) (OK, just kidding, let's say, 60 seconds;-)) ) As you know, I expressed opposition to the choice of this db for integration, and have never hidden this fact, as with all of the other Java development integrations into OOo (e.g. db report writer, JMF for multimedia support, etc, etc). My concern here is one of marketing position : we, as a Community, will be seen to have adopted integration of a db module, under the aegis and impetus of the major project sponsor. The recent announcement implies in my twisted mind that either the integration will not happen in time for 2.0, or will be non-stable and lacking basic functionality, in which case we have shot ourselves in the foot with a 12 bore shotgun, In view of the hype that thas been bandied around, such a situation will inevitably have a very negative impact on the project as a whole. The killer question is : when do we begin the DLE (damage limitation exercise) ? do we have any good arguments lined up to fend off agressive critics, other than "Sorry guys (and gals), it isn't going to happen " ? I know I am appearing negative, but I am trying to envisage the worst case scenario and how to deal with it. In an ideal world, everything would work wonderfully, but we all know to well that that is rarely the case. Please don't take my comments as an offense, they are not intended to be. Your team has done great work so far integrating HSLQDB into OOo, even if I disagreed with the choice, but I am not known for mincing my words.
