Here my wishes: It should have a n:m relationship and a 1:1 relationship and have very different fieldtypes, including picture. It should contain not only the tables but also views and queries, as well as forms and reports. It should be filled with some records, so that filtering and searching is possible. It should not be like "Nordwind" from Access, which is unclear because it is so big. It need not to be a real life example,
I agree with all of the above. It should
be in English and should not be translated, so that macros will always work.
While it could be in English for the main "source" as it were, I disagree that it should not be translated, where the will and resources are available to do so. Certainly as far as the French native language group is concerned, if a small db app does come out in English, it will be translated / adapted into French, if only at least by myself, but I can definitely see others in the N-L group volunteering to do this as well. One only has to look at other additional modules that have been made available DMaths (Didier Dorange-Pattet), DicOOo (Laurent Godard), and for which translations are managed as an integral part of the development just like any other multilingual source code development. The fact that such a db may or may not be applicable in real life in any given language is not irrelevant, but as you state above, we should aim for something that is educational, at least at first, rather than a full blown app.
I know that there are already people on the French N-L list thinking of creating such an app for download from the French part of the OOo web site, I shall put them on copy of our discussions here (or translate them for those that do not understand) and see what kind of response I get.
