oooooooooooooooopsSorry my error. Yes I did just use the report wizard.
I downloaded the Sun Report Builder and tried again. Sorry have to put details just in case I did something stupid.
With BASE - open same JDBC connection to MySQL.
Insert - new report
Select table I want to use from the options in box at the right hand side of report (same table 8000 rows ish)
report output = text, page setup = landscape
same variables as before.
3 grouping variables(so have 3 boxes on the left side above the details box)
4 variables dragged into details area
did nothing with headers and footers
Has so far been running for 14 minutes...........will be ending the task now. I
think there could also be some issue with the report builder!

Here are my first results.
Platform: HP a810 ( AMD 3300+ ) XP Sp2
Using OOoDev 2.3 m231Dev Build 9225
Created an embedded database with 1 table, 24 Columns ( mostly Varchar
255, a few INT, 2 Double and 2 Boolean )
Total Records 16361
Created SRB report based on the table
Added three groups, with group heads all on varchar fields
Added 4 fields in detail section
Left Page header and footer sections as default
Saved and closed all OO.org modules
Closed / removed as much as I could. ( including virus&spyware scanners
/ mail clients, etc )
committed memory 399Meg. Avail Phy Mem 439,500 K
Startup of OO.org and Load Base file ( no connect yet ) [Failed to
gather committed mem number] Avail Phy Mem 404234 K
Connect to database: committed memory 479 Meg Avail Phy Mem 380369
Launched Report Builder at 2:48:15
Report rendered to screen at 3:04:08
Total pages 4,424
Committed memory 815Meg Avail Phy Mem 44,400K
At that point the report is fully in memory and I can jump from Page 1
to Page 4,224 in less then a second.
I'll try this with a postgres engine and the same data later and post
the results.
