Although this won't help much:

It _is_ possible to link tables using the combination you're using. It
works using these versions:

$ mysql
Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g.
Your MySQL connection id is 1 to server version: 4.1.22

$ lpkg | grep java
javavmwrapper-2.3
mysql-connector-java-5.1.6

$ lpkg | grep jdk
diablo-jdk-1.5.0.07.01

$ lpkg | grep ffice
de-openoffice.org-2.3.0
de-openoffice.org-3.0.20080330

$ uname -mrs
FreeBSD 6.3-STABLE i386

Maybe you have some non-standard design regarding primary keys or
something ...

HTH anyway,
Marc
