Cannot reproduce, neither A) nor C).

Is the database type properly show in the status bar ("Spreadhseet")?
Did you use the Linux or Windows version? Do other spreadsheet-.odbs
work in the respective version(s)? Sure you really ran m55/dba32e, and
weren't confused by some quickstarter or such grabbing your document for
another version?
