OK, so I've been committing more files this evening. It appears that I was wrong, in that if there are thousands of small files (as in, e.g., an MH formatted mailbox), the commits appear to go very slowly, as one would expect for committing a large number of small files (I think).
However, I still believe I was having problems with the transaction rev file becoming larger than 2GB. I'll test the 2GB limit again, probably within the week. I have a set of data that I can use to test this fairly easily. Maybe with more testing, I'll be able to clear up these issues myself...
