I don't think Fritz was claiming that the open source versions were massively buggier just that all the versions were buggy enough that we'd be better off with a support contract. He probably also has a better idea than you or I about the viability of funding grid engine development purely from support and consultancy revenues on a pure FLOSS product.

On a slight tangent, I'm still confused as to why there are so many projects based on the Grid Engine codebase.
Oracle Grid Engine existing as a separate entity I can understand for commercial reasons. Ditto for Univa Grid Engine.
Where things seem a bit strange is where it looks - from the outside, where I am - like we have several open source projects that aren't coordinating with one another: a Univa open core, Son of Grid Engine and Open Grid Scheduler (apologies if I've missed anyone).
I'm still a bit fuzzy on what differentiates the efforts, and am concerned that the projects might not be pulling in a common direction to benefit the community as a whole. Isn't this what the steering committee was aiming to improve? As far as I can see, there's been no news posted to gridengine.org since February.
I'm not trying to have a go at anyone, I think everyone wants what is best for the community: I'm just hoping for a bit more constructive discussion about what that might be :)
